On January 28, 2023, we'll experience a 1st Quarter Moon in Taurus. 1st Quarter Moons are about assessing the internal tensions you're experiencing, so you have a better sense of how you want to utilize the energy of the current lunar cycle for your personal healing and development.
There is a building tension between values that seem to be in conflict with the Taurus Moon squaring the Aquarius Sun. This is a time for assessing what you value, where and how you are valued, your connection to your senses, and how your self-esteem is impacted by your friendships and social connections. It's also a good time to take stock of any mentorships, group connections (including friendships), and how you're utilizing the internet to see how your body, capacity to receive, and sense of self-worth are being affected by those things. With this 1st Quarter Moon, how you want to experience safety, stability, pleasure, and love may seem to be coming into conflict to one degree or another with your social values.
Let's break this 1st Quarter Moon down:
Moon: emotions, inner-self, intuitive focus
in
Taurus: material worth, self-esteem, stability, practicality, pleasure
is experiencing a conflict of strategies that looks like a conflict of values
with
Sun: outer-self, external focus, ego
in
Aquarius: social connections, humanitarian pursuits, originality, innovation
Taurus strategies are grounded, practical ones that tend to be firmly rooted in physical reality and motivated by the desire for safety and stability and well as comfort and pleasure. Aquarius strategies are more cerebral and change-oriented, focusing on social ideas and mental innovation that impacts how we show up as individuals as well as how society as a whole functions. There is a desire for friendship and equality.
Around the time of this 1st Quarter Moon, you may find yourself triggered, agitated, and in conflict with yourself. This tension is designed to help you sort out what values matter most to you so you can live in greater alignment with your values. Take a deep breath and just notice what you feel and think without passing judgement on yourself. Invite yourself to be curious about how you feel about admiration, stability, and material value as well as authentic self-expression and social justice and friendship.
You can use the following meditative journaling prompts to aid you in assessing your own values:
Both 1st and 3rd Quarter moons trigger internal stress that is designed to help us progress. To prod us into further development of our souls. To keep us from stagnating in our dis-empowering (yet comfortable) ways. It can sometimes be incredibly uncomfortable to feel the tension of quarter moons, but it's oh-so-necessary for our progression and development as offspring of Divinity.
If you're new to my work or just need a refresher on meditative journaling, here are some instructions:
Meditative Journaling
One way you can take advantage of moon phase energy is to engage in a practice I call meditative journaling. Meditative journaling is an exercise for accessing the subconscious mind and receiving answers from your own deep, inner knowing. It involves dropping into a relaxed, meditative state before responding to journaling prompts (which you can prepare for yourself, or you can use prompts someone else has created.)
My recommendation is that before you read any meditative journaling prompts, you take a few moments to focus on your breathing, closing your eyes if you’d like, doing whatever practice helps you drop into relaxation and the present moment.
Then, when you're ready, you read the first question and write down whatever comes to mind. No judgment, no editing as you go. Write down whatever comes to mind, regardless of whether it seems to make sense. Then repeat this process for all the questions. Write until you feel as though you have nothing left to write.
This exercise is a simple, yet effective way to access the power of your subconscious mind and use it for your own healing.
Through light and shadow,
Kayelee
